Chana Masala

May 11, 2011

*Vegan

Chana Masala is the easiest Indian dish to make. However, the only way to make this work is making sure you have garam masala (which is available in the spice section at Whole Foods). It's unbelievable how this spice mixture takes you from sauteed veg and chickpeas to an Indian staple. I made some garlic naan to go with, but some Jasmine rice on the side is just as delicious.

Blood Pressure

The Dude has high blood pressure and he likes to check it out whenever we pass one of these machine-things. And every time I get my blood pressure read by these things, it tells me I'm dead -_-

Fiesta

May 10, 2011

The fiesta was a blur. I wanted to keep things small and invited a couple handfuls of people--a handful of whom did not show up, whether it was my fault for not answering my phone or the fact that some people aren't down anymore.. does not matter. I made the strongest margaritas known to mankind and those thirsty enough were well-hydrated. By the end of the night there were random people in my apartment, someone passed out on my couch, lesbians kissing and a very sticky floor. I don't even think I took any of these pictures, which explains the blurriness.

My Cinco de Mayo spread: Tacos! chicken, tofu (for the vegetarians), frijoles, arroz, pico de gallo, corn salsa, queso fresco, corn tortillas, salsa, and a pastel de tres leches. I think I did Mexico (pronounced MEH-he-co) proud.

Did you know burritos aren't native to Mexico? They were invented in the Southwest and Mexicans adopted them because Americans liked them so much. Give it up for Americans to shove a bunch of food in a gigantic flour tortilla and be stoked. No wonder Americans are fat. My favorite part of visiting south Texas was getting tacos. They are teeny tiny tacos of the yummiest meat, only topped with chopped onions and cilantro. Sprinkle it with lime juice and that was that. Perfecto.

Melancholia

I read somewhere that Kirsten Dunst got off easy because Lars Von Trier didn't make her get raped or something scary. Still looks good!

"The French Cuff"

May 09, 2011

Via Garance Doré

Sometimes, I detest "fashion". Especially "fashion blogs". Making a big deal out of nothing, calling something something that used to be nothing.. it all gets too self-important and serious. Now, something as simple as me tucking my cuff under because I don't have time to have them hemmed is now going to be called a "French Cuff". Ah tres chic!

I also think that Scott Schuman's open distaste for The Royal Wedding and Kate Middleton's style is tacky and soo not chic.

"So are you actually interested in the royal wedding? I understand the historical significance of this event, and how important it is to the UK. It's also a great story for the media. But are you actually, really interested in the royal wedding? How many of you are going to be watching at 6 AM tomorrow morning?"

And when asked by Style.com, "OK, so you’re not Kate Middleton’s mystery designer. But if you saw her walking down the street, would you shoot her?" He replies with, "Uh…next question."

I can appreciate and respect this dynamic duo's impact on style for the little people out in the world, but come on.
